Demo and Steam Greenlight

June 4, 2016

Hey everyone, for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Stephen and I’m the developer of the upcoming game The Sun Will Rise. Just a reminder that June 11th and 12th we will be at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for Denver Mini Maker Faire. It’s an awesome event for anyone that loves any of the STEAM subjects. There’s everything from virtual reality to Star Wars robots to interactive music exhibits and we’re super pumped to be a part of it all so come join us!

So today I’m going to talk a bit more about our upcoming Steam Greenlight campaign. Like I said last week, we are trying to get our game distributed through Steam, still for completely free, so that we can get the game into as many hands as possible and continue the conversation about depression.

Our Greenlight campaign starts this Friday, June 10th at noon us mountain time. We will have links to the campaign page as well as a playable demo of the game at our website SunWillRiseGame.com. We are going to need all your help to get the game approved. If you like what we are doing, please like the game on Steam and share it with your friends! We have links to all our social media accounts on our website, and they will all have easily sharable links that you can send out to anyone you think may be interested.

Before I go I just want to take a second to thank everyone for all the support we have received so far throughout the project. It means the world to us and we hope that you will continue to support us as we move forward with the game.

Next week the video will be the Greenlight trailer for the game since we will be in Denver, so be sure to check that out and thank you all for listening, I’ll see you soon!

Steam Greenlight and Mini Maker Faire

May 28, 2016

Hey everyone, for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Stephen and I’m the developer of the upcoming game The Sun Will Rise.  Today I’m going to talk about our upcoming Steam Greenlight campaign and our next event, the Denver Mini Maker Faire.

So real quickly for those of you who don’t know, Steam is the single largest digital distribution platform for PC gaming. It’s estimated that 75% of games bought online were downloaded through Steam.

So what is Greenlight? Greenlight is a system that uses the community's help in picking some of the new games that are released on Steam. Developers create a page for their game and if they get enough support from the community, they get picked up by Steam for distribution.

That brings it to where we come into it. We will be launching our Greenlight campaign on June 10th, and we will also be making our demo available on the website on that day as well! We will need all of your support to make this campaign successful, so please visit our website at SunWillRiseGame.com for more info and all the updates on this. We hope that by making our game available, still completely free, on Steam, we can continue our mission and get the game into as many hands as possible.

Immediately after we launch our Greenlight campaign on June 11th and 12th, we will be showing our demo at Denver Mini Maker Faire. It’s a crazy event with all kinds of amazing tech from virtual reality to robots to huge scale art projects and everything in between. Again, more info on this event is on our website at SunWillRiseGame.com, but if you can make it down to Denver the weekend of the 11th, it’s going to be a ton of fun for all ages.

Next week I hope to get more into detail about everything, but that’s all the time I have for today so thank you all for listening and I will see you soon!

FCBD and More Events

May 8, 2016

Hey everyone, for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Stephen and I’m the developer of the upcoming game The Sun Will Rise.  Today is going to be a real quick video. I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone that showed up yesterday to Free Comic Book Day. We talked to nearly 600 people, ran them through the demo, tried to explain what we are doing, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. We received so much support and we can’t thank you enough, it means so much to us. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

We will also be adding more events in Colorado to our calendar in the coming months and we will be doing remote events so those of you not in Colorado or Northern Colorado can get a chance to play the demo and see what we’re trying to do with the game. So stay tuned to our website at SunWillRiseGame.com for all those updates.

Based on the suggestion of one of the lovely people that showed up yesterday, we will also be adding a mailing list to the website that will keep you up to date on all of our public appearances as well as release dates for the game. So stay tuned for that on the website as well.

That’s all I had to say for today, but thank you again from the bottom of our hearts to everyone that showed up yesterday and everyone that continues to support this project. Your support is really what keeps us going. So thank you for your support, thank you for listening, and I will talk to you again soon.

Hey everyone, for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Stephen and I’m the developer of the upcoming game The Sun Will Rise.  Before I jump into the video, I want to remind everyone that in one week, on May 7th we will be showing a demo of our game at Gryphon Games & Comics to help celebrate Free Comic Book Day! We will be there from 9am until about 6pm so come by, play the game, grab some free comics, and enjoy the awesome atmosphere! For more info on this event, where to go, and what Free Comic Book Day is, please visit our website at SunWillRiseGame.com.

Today, I was going to talk about gameplay and what you can expect to see, but something much more important came up. In Fort Collins, in the past six months, we have lost three middle school students to suicide.

To help honor and remember these youth, the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County, Pathways for Grief and Loss, and Three Hopeful Hearts are putting on an event called the Gathering of Hope: Remembering Students. It will be held tomorrow, May 1st at 6:30pm at Colorado Youth Outdoors/Swift Ponds. I will be sure to include the address in the description of this video along with the text version of this video on our website.

This event is all about coming together with friends, teachers, family, and community to honor and remember the youth we have lost. There will be memorial candles to light up the ponds, music provided by local high school students, a reception and community resource area, as well as a special project called “My Life Is Important Because” that has been organized by one of my good friends along with the middle and high schoolers she works with.

If you are in the area, I urge you to come out to this event to not only remember these students, but also to help end the stigma surrounding depression.

Like I have said before, depression is a monster, but you do not have to fight it alone. Your friends, family, and community will all stand with you and we will stand with you. Together we are stronger than depression. Thank you for listening and I will talk to you again soon!

#RunForIt5k

April 9, 2016

This video went well over the planned minute, but To Write Love On Her Arms and their #RunForIt5k are worth it!

Our fundraising page: www.classy.org/TheSunWillRise

Thank you for supporting this awesome organization with us!

Hey everyone, for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Stephen and I’m the developer of the upcoming game The Sun Will Rise. I want to keep these update videos coming once a week and I want to keep them all under a minute, so let’s jump right into it.

Today I wanted to talk about To Write Love On Her Arms and specifically their Run For It 5k event. To Write Love On Her Arms is an incredible non-profit organization doing great work finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.

Currently, they are putting on a fundraising event called the Run For It 5k. This event provides an opportunity to as the website puts it, “move for something that matters” and really gives a change to stand behind this wonderful organization. In support of this event and To Write Love On Her Arms, our team has started a fundraising page that I will include a link to in any place that I’m posting this.

We are nearly at our fundraising goal and the last time I checked, the event as a whole was less than 10% away from its funding goal, so if you’ve been looking for a good cause to donate to, you’d be hard pressed to find someone better than this.

And I feel this goes without saying, but anything helps as well, if you can only give a dollar, that’s perfect, thank you. You are helping To Write Love On Her Arms continue their work. If you can’t afford to give anything, but still want to help the cause, you can help by spreading around this video, sharing our Facebook and Twitter updates, or sending our fundraising page to people who may be interested. And like I said before, I will be sure to include a link to all that down in the description or wherever I’m posting this. Or if you want more information, our website is SunWillRiseGame.com. All the links to our social media will be there, as well as the link to our fundraising page.

Before I leave you, I want to say one last thing. Depression is a monster, and anything we can do to help stop it, we need to be doing. That’s what our team believes and that’s what we stand behind. We hope that you will stand with us. Thank you for listening and I will talk to you again soon!

Welcome!

April 01, 2016

Hello! My name is Stephen and I’m the developer of the upcoming game The Sun Will Rise. Since we’re launching our website, Facebook, and YouTube, today, I figured I would explain real quick what this game is and why we’re making it. The Sun Will Rise is a completely free JRPG about depression. It takes inspiration from games like Final Fantasy, That Dragon Cancer, and Actual Sunlight.

Our game was made with three goals in mind: create awareness of the disease and its warning signs, foster empathy through game play, and provide resources to those in need. In order to achieve these goals, we have included several fantastic writers and mental health professionals to make sure that the game is both entertaining and gives an accurate description of depression.

If you’d like to know more about the game or some of the people that are making it, just go to our website at SunWillRiseGame.com! There you can find links to our Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube pages where you can stay up to date on the latest news about the game. If you would like to know anything else, or just want to say hi, send us a message through any of the socials or through our website. Thanks for listening and I will see you all again soon!
